Cards 7, 8 and 9

So the challenge continues and it is fun for me to see what Kristina comes up with and then to make it similar but my own so for cards 7, 8 and 9 here we go….

This is card 7, almost exactly like Kristina's except for the sentiment.  The sentiment is from Paper trey Ink and the stamp is from Greeting Farm, Flirty Anya.

This one is also very similar to Kristina's card 8 but I used a snowflake border punch that I had by ek success.  The snowflakes were dies by Sizzix and I added some crystals to the middle.  I haven't added a sentiment yet… Not sure what I want this one to say yet.

And for card 9, I used the Simon Says Stamp set for the dots and the banner sentiment is also from them.  I really like this technique and I used it again to make a thank you card for a teacher!

Continuing on with the challenge Days 4,5 and 6

So here are my versions of "non-holiday" cards following Kristina Werner's ideas.

So for this card, based on Card 4 I used a digital stamp image by Birdie Brown and then I used a black background that I splattered with some white Tim Holtz distress stain. Then I changed the format a bit and added the sentiment to the bottom and use a snowflake on the side.  The sentiment inside says "Thank You".  The sentiment on the front is a die/ rubber stamp combo by Simon Says Stamp.

For this card I wanted to make a long skinny card using one stamp set like Kristina's card 5.  So I used Paper Smooches Vogue Abode stamp set to make this card. And some red embossing for the sentiment and then colored some of the items in the scene with red accents.

For the final card I wanted to use the Perfect Pearls.  So I found this stamp that looks like a tag by Basic Grey called Nordic Holiday and then used a similar layout as Card 6.

Using challenges to make more cards

This year I wanted to challenge myself to keep up with Kristina Werner's Holiday card making series but since I don't celebrate Christmas I wanted to use her cards as inspiration to make other cards.  I use either the layout, colors, or the feel of the card to create a new card.  So here are the first 3 days of cards so far.  If you want to follow along with Kristina here is where you can find her blog

So for this card I used similar colors and layout.  I used the PaperTrey Ink and Paper Smooches stamp sets for the bird and sentiment and a woodgrain background rubbed with white ink like Kristina's.

This card uses the wreath idea similar to Day 2 but I used PaperTrek Inks smaller blooms and sentiment to make my own flower wreath.

For this card I used the same colors and format as Day 3 but used another sentiment and filigree stamp from PaperTrey Ink.

That's it for now.  Hope this inspires you to make whatever cards you need using similar ideas.

Runway Inspired Challenge

Hi Everyone!

Today I made 2 cards for the Runway Inspired Challenge.  I had fun making these cards! Hope you enjoy.

For this card I used the colors and the pose of the woman reminded me of a fish jumping out of water so that's what I came up with here.  The image is from Birdie Brown, she has a lot of cute images to download and color.  I'm still trying to improve on my coloring and blending skills. The sentiment I made on my computer and cut out.  The stars are from the Simon Says Stamp Cupcake party and stamped with silver ColorBox pigment ink and Hero Arts white dye ink.

And for this card the colors and the rouching on the dress were my inspiration.  The flower is a sticker from K & Company and the stamped sentiment is from Paper Smooches Simply Said.

Hope you enjoy!

stress reliever

Hi everyone...
This past week has been very stressful!  So, what to do?!?! Make cards of course!!! Here are a few cards that I made this past week, playing with new dies and stamps that I have been meaning to try.

This card was made using the Avery Elle BonJour stamp set.  I LOVE this stamp set, it reminds me of Paris and all the wonderful treats I had there as well as the macaroon class I took. Yum! It makes me want to fly back just to have some again! :)

These two cards are based on a similar one that Jennifer McGuire made recently.  I used the mini bloom stamp and die set from Papertrey Ink, the woodgrain card stock from Simon Says Stamp and the vases and mini bow are dies by Memory box!

This card was made for a dear co-worker who is going to compete in the Vineman trialathon this week-end.  She has been working so hard and I know she's going to so great!  Go Brooke!!!

Well, that's all for now! Have a great week-end

July Simon Says Stamp card kit

Yesterday, I got my new Simon Says July card kit in the mail!  So, finally tonight I got a chance to use it.  I used a layout be Kristin Werner in an Online Card Class called Pattern play.  I love this kit, the stamp set is super fun and the papers have great summer colors.

I added some star dust Stickles to the dark red swirls after I took the picture...now I love it!!! :)  I will add a sentiment later when I need a card!

A few cards

Hi everyone!  I know its been a loooong time since I have posted on the blog but I HAVE been making things, just not posting, sorry.  Here are a few cards I made recently.

This card was left blank so that I can add a sentiment when needed.  I used the Hero Arts Layered flowers stamp and added some dimension between the layers.  The background paper is from Bazzill Wayfarer collection.

This card was so easy to make I used the beautiful paper from My Mind's Eye Meadow collection and inked the edges slightly, then just embossed the sentiment and added a couple of brads.

This was a fun card to make! I used the new Hero Arts Stamp Your Story Brush Strokes stamp in an ombre effect, then used one of the embellishments I made from the Basic Grey Knee Highs paper and then used die cuts for the sentiments.  I love this new die cut by Die-Versions called everyday complements, it has several words that use can use to make your own greeting...LOVE!

Another pattern play day 5

Here is another example of Day 5 techniques of pattern play.  This card combines Kristina's and Betsy's techniques....  I

Cookbook scrapbook page

Hi there...
I have been making myself a cookbook "scrapbook style".  Today I used a idea from Two Peas in a Bucket website called 213 in 2013.  I also used the technique from the online card class to make my own bird embellishments.  It was a lot of fun and I like this page because the papers by Basic Grey called Knee Highs are so fun and playful.  I am also entering this into the rainbow challenge over at shoppumpkinspice.com ...

Pattern Play Day 4

I know I'm out of order but here is what I did for Day 4 using Jennifer's technique to tone down some papers.  These papers are from the Simon Says Stamp March card kit.  I die cut the papers with the My Favorite Things, chevron stripes then white washed them with picket fence Distress Stain.  I completed the card with another die from Memory box called precious hearts and then rounded the corners.  Also, I'm going to enter this in the Simon Says Spring challenge.

Pattern play class Day 5

I know I'm skipping around but I really wanted to make my own embellishment demonstrated on day 5 of class.  So I found a larger flower image from the Dear Lizzy Neopolitan collection and made my own embellishment with pop dots and glossy accents.  I used 3 more papers from that collection for the banners on the card and my "love" die from paper smooches and some enamel dots from My Minds Eye

Pattern play days 2 and 3

So for the second day I used Jennifers technique of emboss stamping on a patterned paper to make a new patterned paper. I started with this paper and used this stamp to clear emboss over the paper.

Then I used distress inks in wild honey and peeled paint to get the final paper I used in the card.

For the third day I used Kristina's layout for using a bright bold print and I like how it came out and will make it again with some "fine tuning"

These online card classes are so much fun and challenging.  If you haven't tried one I encourage you to do so as I am learning ALOT!!! :)

Clean and simple days 6-9

SO....I'm playing "catch-up" again this week-end with my online card class.  Here are the examples I made.

So for this card I use Jennifer's technique to stamp the background of the wedding cake then I cut the frosting from my Cricut and finished the top with a die cut bow

For this card I used Kristina Werner's masking technique!

This card was made following Kristina's example.
This card is made using Jennifer McGuire's paper pleating technique.

Hi There!
Since I am new to paper crafting I have been doing a lot of experimenting and blog hopping and taking classes online.  So, I want to thank everyone for generously posting pictures and videos to help me on this exploration.  One of the classes I took was through online card classes by Jennifer McGuire. I loved this class, it taught me lots of techniques. Here is a picture of the canvas that I made from the class.  Each heart is a different technique.

One of my favorite techniques was on the second row in the middle.  Using the paper rosette die by Tim Holtz.  Using this technique lead me to make a couple of other projects.

For this card I used the Tim Holtz pinecone die but since it's not practical to mail a pinecone I replaced it with a paper rosette.  I used a rubber stamp by Hero Arts and colored it with pastel pencils.  Then I used Distress Inks for the edges. The brown herringbone background is paper from Little Yellow Bicycle.

For this mat I went a little crazy with the paper rosettes, but I just love them.  I made different sizes and layered some on top of each other and some I added a snowflake punch on top with a crystal or pearl embellishment. I used the Tim Holtz pinecone die again but didn't watch the video from his blog until after I made the pinecone.  But I highly recommend watching his video and I will do it his way next time.  The snowman is another Sizzix die Snowmen #2 and I also inked the edges of him with Distress Inks and around the inner edges of the mat.  I used paper from Little Yellow Bicycle, Winterings collection.

That's all for today!

Take Care
Lisa
